Now that the rampant speculation has subsided regarding Harrison Ford’s broken leg, ankle, etc… Disney has decided to drop a new bombshell!

I have to admit, I assumed once Disney signed J.J. Abrams to reignite the Star Wars franchise, he would carry the torch through Episode IX. Now comes word that writer-director Rian Johnson, best know for his science fiction flick Looper, will take up the reigns for the last two films of the new trilogy (Episodes VIII and IX).

Abrams did a fantastic job reinventing the Star Trek franchise, so much so that a die hard Star Wars fan like myself has com to really like the “enemy”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m excited to see what all the announced and extremely talented directors (Abrams, Josh Trank, Gareth Edwards and now Johnson) can do with the franchise I hold so dear. I’m just shocked that Abrams is out before even releasing Episode VII. Assuming Johnson can handle all the pressures that come with leading one of the largest properties in Hollywood, I’m sure he’s going to weave a fantastic tale.

Needless to say, I can’t wait for December 2015!

I'm a true child of the 80s from a small town near Cleveland, Ohio. My all time favorite topics are Star Wars, slasher films and Cleveland sports (despite the misery it causes). I narrowly avoided law school, instead choosing film school. I have been accused of being a walking IMDB, but I take it as a compliment!
