It feels like forever since I’ve been to a comic con. So to say I’m excited for Rose City Comic Con this weekend would be an understatement. This year really seems to have something for everyone. So get your con bag ready and read below for a condensed daily rundown of the panels, artists, and exhibitors that I’m looking forward to checking out. I highly recommend them.
Panel: This is Chris Sullivan
The Knick is one of those great shows that goes under the radar for a few years then quietly bows out. I loved it and was devastated when it was canceled. So I was excited to learn that the actor who played one of my favorite characters, the rough but gentle ambulance driver, would be in attendance this year. I bet he has some great stories to tell.
Time: 2:00 PM – 2:50 PM Location: Panel Room 1
Exhibitor: Hollywood Theater
There are many things I love about Portland. The weather, the people, and the Hollywood Theater. I’ve been to a lot of theaters over the years and the Hollywood is something Portland can be proud of. Quentin Tarantino dropping by to screen The Hateful Eight (only 70MM film theater in Oregon) and an all day 35MM marathon of Indiana Jones are just a taste of the awesome things they program. Stop by their booth and maybe sign up for a membership after you check out all they have to offer.
Panel: The UO Presents “Superman the Beautiful”
Full disclosure, as an alum of the University of Oregon I couldn’t not go to this talk with Professor Ben Saunders deconstructing the Man of Steel. I took some interesting classes at the U of O but I’m remiss that I didn’t take a comic focused class from Prof. Saunders. Luckily for me and other attendees of RCCC we can take a mini course on Saturday.
Time: 1:30 PM – 2:20 PM
Location: Panel Room 3
Nimasprout (Nicole Gustafsson) is an artist that I’ve been following for as long as I can remember. Her work is very colorful and always seems to get me right in the feels. I’ve been itching to put up her Hocus Pocus print for Halloween but as it’s still early September I think that would be frowned upon. Be sure to check out her work.
Panel: PDX Ramen Summit
Oh S#!%. That’s what I said out loud when I found out that there would be a panel dedicated to my favorite Japanese delicacy. Portland has some amazing ramen in any style you could want. Kayo’s, Afuri, and Noraneko are some heavy hitters that will have representatives discussing this wonderful dish. My only regret is that Marukin won’t be in attendance. Their spicy Paitan Red is my favorite bowl in Portland. However, I wouldn’t turn down a seat at any of these three ramen palaces.
Time: 12:00 PM – 12:50 PM
Location: Panel Room 2
Exhibitor: The Harry Potter Alliance – Portland Chapter
I had never heard of the HPA before going through this years exhibitors, but when I learned more about them I was very interested to stop by their booth and learn more. A group of awesome people that love Harry Potter and want to achieve the goal of spreading Harry’s message of fairness, truth, bravery, and teamwork? What’s not to love.
So that’s a short look at some of the many fun things to see, buy, and do at Rose City Comic Con 2018 that I’m looking forward to. RCCC is September 7th through 9th at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, OR.
