March Nerdness 2012 – Sweet 16
We are down to the Sweet 16. Here’s how we got here.
Sorry Ladies, It Just Had to Be: While Tigra and Scarlet Witch are certainly fan favorites, they really are no match for the X-Women. And while the Birds of Prey certainly turn heads (especially with Poison Ivy now in their ranks) and the Hulk may be momentarily distracted, they are no match for Dr. Strange (whose sexual preference is questionable) and Namor (who only has eyes for another man’s wife). Finally, while Harley is difficult to ignore, Psylocke and the most vicious of the X-teams would slaughter the mercenaries of Suicide Squad.
Well, It Was Destined to Be: No surprises here. Both Justice Leagues had to make it, as did the Avengers and Green Lantern Corps, especially considering their opponents were turtles, cats, and World War II veterans. Oh, and Dr. Manhattan told me last week that the Watchmen would beat Stormwatch. He also told me Ohio would beat Michigan. I believed him on both accounts.
Boy, It Was Too Close to Call: Inhumans vs. The Umbrella Academy – A man who can destroy with a word or a man with a Martian gorilla body? Fantastic Four vs. Legion of Superheroes – Four versus a Legion? Rogues vs. Sinestro Corps – Flash’s underdog nemeses vs. Hal’s number one nemesis? All these choices were really difficult to make. So underdogs all around!
