A lot of things are going on at the start of this comic book and unfortunately if you have not played the game you will probably be lost. That being said the overall story on Vergil’s Chronicle is able to bounce back and catch its footing. Now as an avid fan on Devil May Cry since before the reboot and next gen versions of the game I was actually eager to open this up. The reboot had one of the best storylines of a DMC to date and was a very successful retelling of the story despite much controversy. Whether it was the change to Dante’s Hair or back story fans couldnt help but nit pick at Ninja Theory’s updated Dante but let me start there before this turns into a video game review. For a book titled “The Chronicles of Vergil” I feel, after reading it that it should be called The Kat Chronicles or Devil May Cry 0 mission. This book feels oddly centered around Kat and left me feelng more curious about Dante’s story than vergil’s and you see him less. Once you get past the beginning the comic really shines. Even though she is not as gifted as Dante or Vergil Kat has alot of depth as a supporting character and is alot stronger than she looks. She is as important to the task rescuing Dante as Vergil is and takes alot of punishment physically and mentally Literally. As for Vergil we can already see the selfiness and arrogance that leads him down the dark path we already know he is headed towards. All that is left is seeing the journey to get there.
I give this comic 3 out of 5 Nerdskulls.
