March Nerdness 2013 – The Champion!

March Nerdness 2013 championYour votes determined who would be the March Nerdness 2013 champion. The alien and magic user divisions were loaded with favorites like Gandalf, Voldemort, Darkseid, Yoda, and The Doctor. The robots/android and monster divisions had some recognizable names like Godzilla and Megatron as well as some upstarts that might have tested your nerdy knowledge like Gort and Jabberwocky. The tournament had some wild upsets (The Creature), lopsided victories (Dracula vs. Edward), and classic confrontations (Yoda vs. The Doctor) that were the subject of heated debates. Many a nerd tore up his or her bracket in outrage, but hopefully they were also, at least mildly, amused.

Well, it’s down to the last two.

Doctor Strange versus Martian Manhunter:

Here’s how it goes down!

Martian Manhunter tries a psychic attack only to find that Doctor Strange is more formidable against a psychic attack than he had guessed. Strange defeated Moondragon in telepathic combat and is able to repel the Martian’s psychic assault. Like so many of his previous opponents, Strange retaliates with a firestorm, and, like his previous opponents, is disappointed with the results. While the Martian is momentarily weakened, he is able to overcome the pyrophobia once more. Strange then tries to bind J’onn with the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak and J’onn simply phases through them.

This is when the super-speed and super strength turn the tide. Unlike Superman, the Martian Manhunter is not especially vulnerable to magic. Energy blasts ricochet with ease and in no time the Martian is on top of Strange, pummeling him with shattering blows. Were Strange not able to cast defensive spells, he would have been crushed within seconds. Still, Manhunter is able to get in close enough to crush Strange’s hands and thus deal a fatal blow to Strange’s ability to cast spells. Manhunter either endures or phases through any of Strange’s remaining abilities until he methodically removes all of Strange’s icons starting with the Eye of Agamotto. Strange, while powerful, is dependent upon his artifacts. The Martian Manhunter is too strong, too fast, and nigh invulnerable. With broken hands and bereft of his tokens, Doctor Strange flees to an alternate dimension.

I've been a comic nerd since Spider-man and his Amazing Friends and the Super Friends. So someone please explain to me, when did Aquaman become so cool? Also, why isn't She-Hulk in more media?
