June 1st, 2012 shall forever be remembered as the day Jay Shaw, aka “Iron Jaiden” ruled over the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX. For those that have been following the artwork put out through Mondo the past couple of months, then you should be familiar w/newcomer artist, Jay Shaw. Jay made his official Mondo debut with a “Comin’ at Ya” in February and since then has been a non-stop machine releasing numerous prints for Mondo that include Kill List, The Fly, Bullhead, Rocky III and others. To say Jay’s work is amazing would be an understatement. Influenced by Polish illustrators, Jay has taken movie posters to another level of clever yet elegant and mind-stunning designs. So it’s no wonder that the Mondo team contacted Jay for a solo gallery show to be displayed for all to see on June 1st, 2012.
The challenge set forth was taking films from the Blue Underground catalog and then creating prints for 16 different films. Seeing the completed works was nothing short of amazing. Â While each print has its own elegance to it, my favorite aspect is the black, red & white color theme that Jay worked into every piece. Individually, the prints stand on their own two feet, but when walking down the wall examining the prints, they all just seemed to flow together. Some prints were mesmerizing, some were creepy as can be, but all together, it’s a creative masterpiece that only one mind could have come up with… The mind of Jay Shaw.
Below are photos of all the prints in Jay’s show at the Mondo Gallery located at 4115 Guadalupe Street in Austin, TX. A HUGE Congratulations goes out to Jay Shaw and the Mondo crew for an amazing experience.
