Hero Complex Gallery Presents Quattro With A Shotgun!

Hero Complex Gallery had an amazing 2015. They hosted solo shows for the likes of Craig Drake and Jordan Monsell, continued their excellent series of Imagined Worlds and Young Guns, and reached the stratosphere with their WonderCon and New York Comic Con showings. The team also pulled the proverbial rabbit out of a hat with the long awaited return of Tyler Stout as they teamed with Marvel Entertainment to release Avengers: Age of Ultron.

With a year like that, perhaps Hero Complex Gallery slows down a bit and enjoys some of that much earned success?

Not a chance. They’re raising the bar right from the word go. Their first show of 2016 brings together four of the industry’s top artists in New Flesh, James Rheem Davis, Vance Kelly, and Matt Tobin Ryan. From sci-fi, to horror, to comics, these four artists have covered the gamut of Nerdy topics. And we can’t wait to see what they have in store for this show.

Lets look back at some of the artwork from the last few years from all the artists in the show shall we?

JAMES RHEEM DAVIS

James was born in San Francisco, CA and raised in the Bay Area, but now resides in Phoenix, AZ. He uses his full birth name, but is not a serial killer. He is neither a GIANT nor a SUMO, there are reasons behind it, but for now it is whatever you want it to be. If you ask him, he’s just a very boring individual who enjoys movies, music and especially cookies. JRD has created designs and posters for a wide variety of bands in two distinct styles. His art has an inspiring twisted beauty that draws from a variety of influences, including MTV (when they played videos), horror films, and pop culture. Major influences include Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali, Frank Kozik, H.R. Giger, Dave Mckean, David Carson, Phil Hale and Kent Williams. James was contacted recently by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio regarding submitting some of his gig posters into their library and archives. He said it was such a great honor to be a part of their history. Here are some of my favorite past pieces.

MATT RYAN TOBIN

He’s an artist extraordinaire from Hamilton, Ontario. Yep, that’s Canada. That means he’s nicer than you and mean. Unless of course you’re one of our Canadian Nerds. Then you’re on par.

He describes himself as thus, “I’ve been seriously making a muck on computer graphic platforms for the better half of a decade. I watch too many horror movies and I play my records real loud.

I live soley on the nutrients that only coffee, Irish Whiskey and oreos can provide…or a good tea with a side of toast (for dipping). I dont sleep either, really.”

VANCE KELLY

Vance Kelly is an award-winning illustrator, fine artist, printmaker and graphic designer.
Born in 1970, he resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. His instantly recognizable artwork can be seen in the industries of music, advertising, apparel, and publishing. With an interest in mythology, fantasy, and the occult, Vance uses dark and light themes to express his unique imagery. He is most notable for his album cover and poster art. I have seen his recent work with Hero Complex gallery and can’t say enough good things about them.

NEW FLESH

New Flesh is an artisan silkscreen shop specializing in hand-pulled posters. New Flesh is operated by N.E. His works have ranged from shows at galleries like Hero Complex gallery, private commissions and even a stint with some classic movie prints working with Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-In here in Austin, Texas.

I'm a true child of the 80s from a small town near Cleveland, Ohio. My all time favorite topics are Star Wars, slasher films and Cleveland sports (despite the misery it causes). I narrowly avoided law school, instead choosing film school. I have been accused of being a walking IMDB, but I take it as a compliment!
