Much like yesterday’s Dark Knight Rises casting article, we’ve been receiving a lot of hate mail asking why we haven’t been talking about the new X-Men movie. Want to know the truth? Because it looks god awful. We might be nerds, but we still have standards and we don’t like talking about movies that are sure to be bombs (Green Lantern, we’re looking at you!) However, today brings a whole new batch of photos from the movie and we were finally able to whip up something scathing enough to post. Here’s a warning. If you are excited for this movie, you probably shouldn’t read the rest of this article.
Yesterday we learned that a promo shot of the cast was released for X-Men: First Class and we were excited to see the characters in costume. As you know, we’ve been talking a lot about the casting of this movie on our weekly webisode series, “Nerdlocker!” In fact, we recently spoke about how excited we were to see Kevin Bacon play Sebastian Shaw on the Christmas episode. So, needless to say, we were very excited to see the characters in their iconic blue and yellow costumes, when we were met with this garbage.
We honestly thought that this was a practical joke being played on us. After checking our calendars and realizing that it wasn’t any where near April 1st, we did some digging and found out that this was absolutely a legit picture leaked by Fox Studios. In fact, Mathew Vaughn isn’t too happy with the leak and had the exact same thoughts about it that we did. He told /Film:
“I freaked out on them yesterday. I don’t know where the hell that came from. I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the f*ck is this sh*t, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like ‘Jesus Christ’…
Althoug Vaughn has his doubts on whether it is an image leaked by Fox, it has been confirmed that they sent the images along with interviews with the cast to Yahoo!, IGN, Moviefone and MSN. Not only has Fox continued to ruin almost every superhero movie they’ve touched, but now they’re releasing images without the Director’s consent. Stay classy, Fox.
As worried as I am about this movie, Mathew Vaughn’s response to the image has restored what little faith in this movie I had. As long as I can get past the fact that their costumes look horrible, Nightcrawler’s pops, Azazel, is on the team for no damn reason, Beast (Hank McCoy) is covered in blue fur instead of being human and oh yeah, this nerd is playing Professor Xavier.
Well there you have it, there’s the latest on X-Men: First Class directed by Mathew Vaughn, produced and written by Bryan Singer. The movie is set to be released on June 3, 2011 and will sure to be a stinker. Still don’t believe us?!
