It’s October and every Nerd knows what that means, Halloween and scary movies!  Here at Nerdlocker, we’re a HUGE fan of the horror genre and we’ll be posting articles all month long that celebrate some of our favorite horror films.

There are a slew of horror films every year that either get the axe, held up in production, or are simply just rumored. Below is a list of future horror films we’re most excited to see hit the big screen or hopefully see the light of day.  We tried to gather as much information as we could, but some of these titles are still rumored or closely under wraps  Comment below and let us know what future release you’re most excited about!

World War Z

Release Date: 6/20/2013

Writer: Max Brooks, Damon Lindelof, Matthew Michael Carnahan
Company: Paramount

Synopsis: World War Z revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.  Mireille Enos plays Gerry’s wife, Karen Lane; Daniella Kertesz is his comrade in arms, Segen.

Notes: This was an amazing book.  Fast paced, action packed, and well detailed.  If this film turns out to be half as good as the book, then we’re all in for a treat.

Jeepers Creepers 3

Release Date: 2013
Director: Victor Salva
Writer: Victor Salva
Company: American Zoetrope / MGM

Trish has a recurring nightmare where her son suffers the same fate as her brother did. Determined to prevent this from happening, Trish, sets out on a final quest with Jack Taggart Sr. and Jr. to end the Creeper’s reign of terror once and for all.

Notes: The Creeper is rumored to be returning to the big screen, or at least straight to home video.  I’m a huge fan of the original two films, so I really hope this gets made.

Carrie

Release Date: 3/15/2013
Director: Kimberly Peirce
Writer: Stephen King, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
Company: Sony, Screen Gems

Synopsis: Carrie is a sweet but meek outcast whom her mother has sheltered from society. In an effort to make amends, Sue asks her boyfriend, high school heartthrob Tommy Ross, to take Carrie to prom. Pushed to the limit by her peers at the dance, Carrie unleashes telekinetic havoc.

Notes: I’m not usually a fan of remakes and there have been a TON the past few years.  Here’s hoping that they don’t mess up this classic horror film, originally done by Brian De Palma.

The ABC’s of Death

Release Date: 01/31/2013 (VOD), 03/08/2013
Director: Various
Writer: Various
Company: Drafthouse Films

Synopsis: The ABC’s OF DEATH is an ambitious anthology film featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world’s leading talents in contemporary genre film. Inspired by children’s educational ABC books, the motion picture is comprised of 26 individual chapters, each helmed by a different director assigned a letter of the alphabet. The directors were then given free reign in choosing a word to create a story involving death. Provocative, shocking, funny and ultimately confrontational; THE ABC’s OF DEATH is the definitive snapshot of the diversity of modern horror.

Notes: This is one of my most anticipated horror films.  The idea of mashing 26 different horror shorts together in one film is pretty genius.

The World’s End

Synopsis: 20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just their’s but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Notes: The World’s End brings together the hilariously genius team that brought us Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.  I can’t wait to see what kind of funny horror shenanigans they manage to get into.

Texas Chainsaw 3D

Release Date: 1/4/2013
Director: John Luessenhop

Stephen Susco

Decades later and miles away, a young woman learns that she has inherited a Texas estate from a grandmother she never knew she had. After embarking on a road trip with friends, she finds she is the sole owner of a lavish, isolated Victorian mansion. But her new found wealth comes at a price as she stumbles upon a horror that awaits her in the mansion’s dank cellars…

Notes: The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorites.  The recent remakes left something to be desired, so hopefully this somewhat sequel will be what we’ve been missing.

When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Notes: I’m still not sure how I feel about this remake.  The original was one of the first films that got me hooked on the genre.  Hopefully with Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell producing, this will feel like another trip to the cabin that we don’t mind taking.

The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

Notes: I love the original Maniac and Elijah Wood.  He was creepy in Sin City and proves he has what it takes to up the creep factor in this chilling remake by the same writers that brought us High Tension and The Hills Have Eyes remake.

Paranormal Activity 4

Release Date: 10/19/2012
Director: Henry Joost, Ariel Schulman
Writer: Zach Estrin, Oren Peli
Company: Paramount

Synopsis: ????

Notes: I’ll be honest.  I loved the first Paranormal Activity and the second wasn’t bad.  But they lost me with part three.  Hopefully they can capture some of the scares and creepiness from the beginning of the franchise with part four.

I, Frankenstein

Making his way to a dark, gothic metropolis, he finds himself caught in an all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans.

Notes: I love the idea for this film.  If done right, it could turn out bad ass.  If done wrong, it will turn out looking hokey and cheap.  Keep your fingers crossed nerds!

Silent Night

Company: Anchor Bay Films

Synopsis: It’s a snowy Christmas Eve in Cryer, Wisconsin. A vicious serial killer, dressed as Santa Claus, has made his own naughty list, and anyone on it is in big trouble.

Notes: Any serious horror fan has seen the original film, Silent Night, Deadly Night.  While not on par with a lot of the 1980 slasher flicks, it still packed a punch.  If Anchor Bay gives this film the attention it deserves, we’re in for a treat.

Beetlejuice 2

Thanksgiving

Release Date: 2014
Director: Eli Roth

Notes: Bill Murray… We all love your recent work, but every now and then we miss the Bill we grew to love in Groundhog’s Day.  If the script is great and the cast comes back, this could be epic.  Guess what nerds?  We have digital effects now…

The Gate 3D

Director: Alex Winter

Company: H2O Motion Pictures

Synopsis: (from the original) Three young children accidentally release a horde of nasty, pint-sized demons from a hole in a suburban backyard. What follows is a classic battle between good and evil as the three kids struggle to overcome a nightmarish hell that is literally taking over the Earth

Notes: I’ve loved the original version of this film since I was a kid.  It hasn’t held up too well over the years so a remake could greatly breathe new life into this story.

Company: Universal Pictures

Synopsis: (from the original) A strange prehistoric beast lurks in the depths of the Amazonian jungle. A group of scientists try to capture the animal and bring it back to civilization for study.

Notes: This is a classic and has yet to be tackled in the remake department.  While the other Universal Monsters have all been given some attention, we think it’s about time Universal gathers some courage and pumps this out.

Halloween

Release Date: TBA
Director:
Writer:
Company: The Weinstein Company
Art by: Methane Studios

Synopsis: (from the original) A psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, escapes and stalks a bookish teenage girl and her friends while his doctor chases him through the streets.

Notes: The original is a classic and stands as one of my favorite horror films of all time.  Rob Zombie gave us his take on the infamous killer, but it’s rumored the Weinstein Company are looking for fresh blood for an all new reboot.  I’m personally not a huge fan of the newer franchise, so I’m greatly looking forward to a new version of ‘The Bogeyman’ himself stalk into theaters.

Notes: The first film was one of the best horror/thrillers of recent years.  Two words, ‘More Moses’!
