Yo! Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is now playing in theaters. It features Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, aka The Lonely Island, the creative, good-natured, crazy-silly brainchildren behind SNL Digital Shorts classics such as Dick in a Box, Jizz in My Pants, Lazy Sunday, I’m on a Boat, and I Just Had Sex, as well as the 2007 feature-length film, Hot Rod. This is their first time working with producer Judd Apatow. Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, Imogen Poots, Justin Timberlake, Chris Redd, and Joan Cusack co-star and there are dozens of cameos — everyone from RZA and Nas to Martin Sheen and Seal. The movie’s a blast and I felt it was appropriate to write my review in the form of a rap. I even recorded it so you know how the flow goes and you can listen and read along. Check it!

The Lonely Island’s back and their movie’s worth watching
The soundtrack’s dropping and you know it’s worth copping
‘Cause the lyrics are funny and the beats are knocking
Get the popcorn popping, this has major appeal
Andy Samberg’s a gem playing Connor4Real
Yo the dude is really silly, but still he got skill
And the way he signed a deal and made a killing is ill
C4Real was the truth Style Boyz was the group
Just google ‘Donkey Roll’ if you’re lookin’ for proof
A trio from way back, havin’ a good time
Actin’ a damn fool, spittin’ some sick rhymes
But when Connor got bread, his ego got fed
The fame went to his head and he stopped being a friend
Lawrence up and left ’cause Connor didn’t give him cred
Owen tried to stop him but they went solo instead
Owen was Connor’s DJ but he ain’t get no respect
Wearing a big ass helmet that put a crick in his neck
Connor dropped a solo album got his second on deck
Hired a crew to film him, make a movie no set
Popstar is to hip-hop what Spinal Tap is to rock
A modern day mockumentary that’s ready to pop
The movie is freakin’ funny, I was laughin a lot
In fact, it kind of made me feel like I smoked ounces of pot (haha)
I joke and laugh but kiddin’ I’m not
Half of the damn theater’s cracking up on the spot
They skewer the music industry, simmerin’ hot
And to think it’s from the guys that gave us Dick in a Box
