This review, much like the film itself, will focus on the characters in order to stay spoiler free.

If you have already read the book, or seen the original 1974 movie then you might not be surprised by the story, but if you are a newcomer, prepare for twists and turns and A-HA! moments that only prove to you that you knew nothing. Murder on the Orient Express is a story as twisted as any train track out there.

Hercule Poirot is played with comedic excellence by Sir Kenneth Branagh, whom also directs the film. Every movement of the great detective is made with meticulous care but seems so effortless.
He is joined on the train by a bevy of Hollywood A-listers: Michelle Pfeiffer, Dame Judi Dench, Daisy Ridley, Penélope Cruz, Leslie Odom Jr., Derek Jacobi, Josh Gad, Willem Dafoe, and Johnny Depp. Each of them play their roles so well that, even as someone who knew how it might play out (there is always a chance that they’ll change something), I was swept up in watching them and figuring out the mystery.
I hope that everyone will take a chance on this murder mystery train ride, and hold out hope that there will be a sequel on the River Nile.
