Nerdlocker Movie Review: Finding Vivian Maier

Find tickets and showtimes on Fandango.

A mysterious nanny, who secretly took over 100,000 photographs that were hidden in storage lockers and discovered decades later, is now considered among the 20th century’s greatest photographers. Maier’s strange and riveting life and art are revealed through never before seen photographs, films, and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her.

The only thing I knew about Vivian was basically the above synopsis and how her photos were creating a buzz in the art world. This intrigued me so I wanted to know more about Vivian and her art. Me being a photographer and all, I was really looking forward to this film and I was hoping this would fill my curiosity.

This documentary had all the whimsical notes of a great documentary but it fell flat. Let me expand on this, I wanted to know more about her as a photographer and what drove her but what I got instead was Vivian the Nanny.

This film was lacking focus and I felt at the end I had more unanswered questions then I started with. I give this documentary a 2.5 nerdskull rating.
