Kian is just starting his acting career. He’s a storyteller at heart. He’s also twelve. You can’t beat an ambitious young man working to achieve his goals in life. With that in mind, we had to learn more about him.

You can learn more about his short film Made You Look and the Kickstarter project set up to help with post production costs – HERE

Nerdlocker (NL): Tell us about yourself.

Kian (K): I’m a 7th grader in Portland, Oregon who loves film and comics, and just happened to grow up across the street from the biggest film and comics fan ever, Justin Zimmerman. I am also in theatre productions locally. I would love to be an actor or director someday, and I’m also passionate about making music.

NL: When and how did you know you wanted to make movies?

K: I don’t remember myself ever wanting to do anything other than make comics and movies. When I was 2 I invented a comic series named Snakeman, and my friend still has an early copy. Storytelling has always been the most important thing in my life.

NL: What’s your favorite nerd related snack? (like what do you munch on while playing video games, reading comic books, watching movies, etc…)

K: Popcorn!

NL: Who are some of your favorite directors?

K: Spielberg – his films are some of the first ones I remember getting me excited about movies. Also Hitchcock, Hayao Miyazaki, Harold Ramis, Tim Burton. Honestly, I could go on and on.

NL: Star Wars of Star Trek? Why?

K: I love both, but Star Wars. I grew up watching it and Empire Strikes Back is one of my all-time favorites.

NL: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?

K: Telekinesis, just like the kid from Chronicle (but not to use for evil). It would be a great party trick, and I could pull off the ultimate Eleven cosplay.

NL: Give us a Nerdy secret that most people don’t know about you.

K: I believe the Super Mario Brothers movie is one of cinema’s great masterpieces… (*ducks*)

NL: If you could nerd out (hangout) with anyone in history, who would you choose and why?

K: Shigeru Miyamoto, because he created some of my favorite and most influential video games of all time.

NL: What is your favorite movie?

K: Stand By Me – I don’t know why it’s so rare to see angry kids written well for the screen but this does it. The kids seem so real, and their anger and problems seem authentic. All the actors in there are phenomenal, even the gang members.

NL: What is your favorite video game?

K: Breath of the Wild. The world is so immersive and it was the first game that made me want to spend 15 hours a week exploring.

NL: What is your favorite comic book or comic book character?

K: I have a lot but my favorite character is Wolverine because he doesn’t seem perfect like Superman or Captain America. He has complicated feelings and motives and how cool is it to have knives coming out of your hands?!

NL: Is there a question you’ve always wanted to be asked, but have never found the opportunity?

K: “What was the best thing before sliced bread?”

And there you have it, Kian!

I'm a true child of the 80s from a small town near Cleveland, Ohio. My all time favorite topics are Star Wars, slasher films and Cleveland sports (despite the misery it causes). I narrowly avoided law school, instead choosing film school. I have been accused of being a walking IMDB, but I take it as a compliment!
