Nerdlocker Reviews – Static Shock #1

Steven – I used to love Static Shock as a kid, so when they announced that they were bringing it back I was excited. I have to say, though it seems that the story in the new version will be excellent, it doesn’t seem anything like a reboot. It feels a lot more like the continuation of a story. While that would be good if they were just continuing the story, it doesn’t work for a reboot. Because of that I’m only gonna’ give it 3 out of 5 Nerdskulls.

Jazmin – There was a little bit of back-story change here that I was totally okay with. Overall, I really liked this book. It was fun. The art was a little spotty at times but recovered well. I found Static’s 16-year-old pencil-thin mustache very comical. McDuffy would be proud. If you’re a Static fan, you will be too. 3 out of 5 Nerdskulls.

Jim – I will state this with every review I write for the DC Relaunch, I’m a Marvel guy so I know very little of the DC world beyond the heavy hitters (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, etc.), and even to that end I have not kept up with their latest story lines. I found the recent relaunch extremely enticing in that I might find a better connection with these characters. As for Static Shock, I can’t say much about this book because I didn’t really like it. I found the art to be okay; nothing stood out. And the writing was about the same, okay. It was the like the creative team read some comic book, saw how to do a layout and where to hit some high points, but weren’t able to create something truly unique. It lacked inspiration. There are definitely better ways to spend your reading time and money. I give this book 1 out of 5 Nerdskulls.
