Matt Taylor’s Latest Print, Green Lantern!

I am a huge fan of Matt Taylor’s art design and use of colors. I was first introduced to his work when he released his Star Wars: The Force Awakens print. To me, it was such a unique depiction of the Star Wars universe. It was fantastic.

I immediately worked to keep up with Matt’s releases, which included a lot of imaginative Marvel Cinematic Universe prints. Having conquered that universe without even snapping his fingers, Matt jumped to DC Comics where he tackled a classic character and mainstay in the comic version of the Justice League. Once again his design and use of colors work perfectly to portray the one and only Green Lantern!

This design was originally created as a 1950s variant cover for the 80th Anniversary issue of the Green Lantern comic. Here at Nerdlocker, we have loved the idea of transforming awesome comic book covers into fantastic wall art, so we’re very happy to see the tradition continue. And since we’re talking superheroes, let’s talk team ups. Uniquely Geekly joined forces with our friends at Bottleneck Gallery and Warner Consumer Products to release this gem. Kudos to Uniquely Geekly for their superpowered effort to bring this print to life.

I’ve gotten to draw a fair few comic covers in the last five years but this was my first mainstream DCU piece – and having come into comics reading Batman and Superman it was a pretty special project, so I’m super happy that its going to live on as a print now, and I’d be lying if I said that wasn’t secretly my hope all along…

There’s something kind of magical about Green Lantern – I mean it’s literally a magic wishing ring – so I wanted to play up that association by posing Hal Jordan as an old-time conjuror with the lantern floating between his flourishing hands. Being able to use the classic 1950s logo just finished it off perfectly – it’s hands down one of my favourite illustrations I’ve produced in this trash fire of a year. – Matt Taylor

On a personal note from me its really exciting as this will be the first licensed product from Uniquely Geekly since I officially launched it for MondoCon last year. I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with my artist friends. I also really appreciate that Matt & Joe from Bottleneck were willing to run with me on this print. Hopefully it does well and several of the other cool things I have in the pipeline will be well received too. – Ben Bow, Owner/Operator of Uniquely Geekly

In any normal given year, the gang would have a table set up at Thought Bubble with a line around the corner to grab this print. But it’s 2020, so that’s a no go. Instead it will be released in conjunction with the Thought Bubble Digital Comic Con happening this weekend (November 14 – 15, 2020).

Matt’s Green Lantern print will be available for sale on Saturday, November 14th, at 10:00 am PST (6:00 pm GMT), on Uniquely Geekly’s website.

I'm a true child of the 80s from a small town near Cleveland, Ohio. My all time favorite topics are Star Wars, slasher films and Cleveland sports (despite the misery it causes). I narrowly avoided law school, instead choosing film school. I have been accused of being a walking IMDB, but I take it as a compliment!
